The Houston faith-based community will benefit from Shields’ experience within the senior living industry.

Buckner Retirement Services announced Amy Shields as the new executive director for Parkway Place, effective Oct. 30, 2023. As executive director of the faith-based senior living community, Shields will oversee day-to-day operations as well as the comfort and care of residents at Parkway Place.

Shields has spent the entirety of her 25-year career in senior living serving in the Houston area. She understands the city and its people. Most recently, Shields held the position of CEO at St. Dominic Village where she was responsible for the overall operations of the continuing care community. Prior to that, she served as the licensed facility administrator for Sava Senior Care for 14 years. Shields also holds a Bachelor of Science in social work from Texas State University and is a licensed nursing facility administrator and licensed baccalaureate social worker.

“I grew up with an extremely close relationship with my grandparents, and this is where my passion for senior care began. I’m blessed to have taken my passion and turned it into my career,” Sheilds said.

As executive director of Parkway Place, Shields said her immediate goals are to learn the culture of the community.

“At Parkway Place, we work hard to provide our residents with the best possible care and experience,” said Michael Olmstead, vice president and COO of Buckner Retirement Services. “What impresses me the most about Amy Shields is the wide scope of her knowledge and experience. She brings care and compassion to our residents. And she will be a great resource to support staff so we can best serve our residents.”

Parkway Place recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and is still one of Houston’s premier continuing care communities for seniors. Those who call Parkway Place their home know it is a place built on connections, where you live in the company of other seniors with similar passions, experiences, and the values reflected in the ministry of Buckner.

“Buckner is an amazing non-profit organization with a mission that supports a high quality of life for seniors in our community,” said Shields. “The organizational support of Buckner and the leadership that they have in place was a big part of my decision to join the team.”
